چکیده
This commentary reviews the data on HLA-A2-restricted CD8 T cells specific for peptide540-548 derived from hTERT (human telomerase reverse transcriptase). Several studies have reported the successful generation of such T cells (1, 2, 3). However, tumor recognition was observed in some, but not all, studies. More data are required to elucidate whether hTERT peptide540-548-specific T cells can indeed recognize and destroy tumor cells. It would be highly useful if telomerase would emerge as a universal tumor antigen that can be targeted in the cancer immunotherapy of HLA-A2 positive patients.

The research article by Prewett and colleagues, published in the May 1, 2002, issue of Clinical Cancer Research, provided important translational data that extended earlier preclinical and clinical studies with the human-murine chimeric anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody C225. Subsequent clinical trials with C225 led to the demonstration of its efficacy in combination with irinotecan and regulatory ...

In this phase I pharmacokinetic study of ABI-007, which was published in the May 1, 2002, issue of Clinical Cancer Research, Ibrahim and colleagues provided the framework needed for subsequent studies to confirm the benefits of ABI-007 over solvent-based formulations. Since the study's publication, experiments have highlighted the importance of drug-delivery systems, the immune system in cancer...
متن کاملCommentary The prevalence and complications of urinary tract infections in women with gestational diabetes mellitus: Facts and fantasies
The prevalence of symptomatic urinary tract infections [UTI] and/or asymptomatic bacteriuria in female diabetic patients has been reported as increased or unchanged 2,7,8 compared to non-diabetic subjects. Suggested mechanisms for the greater susceptibility of the diabetic urinary tract to infection include decreased antibacterial activity of the urine as a result of dilution of inhibitory subs...
متن کاملTITLE: Evaluation of Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) as a Candidate Antigen for the Development of Cancer Vaccines for Prostate Cancer PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR:
Purpose: Several immune based therapies targeting prostate cancer associated proteins are currently undergoing clinical investigation. In general, however, little is known about the immunogenicity of prostate cancer or which prostate cancer associated proteins elicit immune responses. We determine whether patients with prostate cancer have antibody immunity to known prostate cancer associated p...
